Ascension St. John announced on Apr. 16 that it is now offering a new bariatric procedure called the endoscopic gastric sleeve (ESG). The hospital said this procedure involves no incisions or scars and is usually performed as a same-day surgery, with many patients able to return to regular activities within about three days.
The introduction of ESG expands the options available for individuals seeking surgical or medically supervised weight loss at Ascension St. John. The hospital’s bariatric care team provides several approaches to support patients in their weight-loss journey.
Dr. Ty Kirkpatrick, a bariatric surgeon at Ascension St. John, discussed the new ESG procedure during an interview with News on 6, explaining its benefits and recovery process.
According to Ascension St. John, choosing weight-loss surgery is a personal decision that can change lives significantly. “Our team will listen to understand your goals and concerns and work to create a plan that is right for you,” the hospital said in its announcement.
The addition of ESG reflects ongoing efforts by healthcare providers like Ascension St. John to offer less invasive procedures that may help more people achieve their health goals.
