Oral Roberts University Track and Field reported a strong showing at the John McDonnell Invitational, with several athletes achieving personal and season bests, as well as podium finishes across various events on April 27.
The highlight of the weekend was Jordan Wenger’s victory in the high jump. Wenger cleared a height of 2.17 meters (7’1.5″), surpassing competitors from Kansas, Illinois State, Arkansas, Lamar, and Houston Christian. He remains at the top of TFRRS’ Midwest region standings and is ranked fourth nationally in the high jump.
On the women’s team, Olivia Granderson ran a season-best time of 56.17 seconds in the 400 meters. Deborah Mazzei also posted a season-best effort in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.12, marking one of the team’s top finishes for the day.
In distance events, Lillian Woolery led Oral Roberts in the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4:39.25, closely followed by Zoie Kiddy at 4:39.76 and Hannah Vanderburg at 4:43.55. Baylee Rae Woodrich and Mackenzie Penner contributed additional competitive times to strengthen ORU’s performance in this event.
Hannah Claytor (11:31.75) and Morgan Lawrence (11:40.96) represented Oral Roberts in the women’s 3000 meters against strong competition.
Field events saw Destiny Downing clear a personal best of 1.75 meters (5-8¾) to finish second in her event.
Other notable performances included Ashley McCutchen setting a personal record with her time of 2:25.55 in the women’s 800 meters; Kallista Frye and Sydney Smith made contributions in sprints; Sibonokhule Thwala placed among the top ten men’s finishers in the men’s 800 meter race with his time of 1:50.27; Ishmael Acheampong finished eighteenth (1:51.73); Jonah Marvine placed twenty-sixth while running his own personal best by improving his previous mark by two seconds (1:52.98).
The team said these results demonstrate progress as they continue their outdoor track season.
