Congressman Kevin Hern, who represents Oklahoma’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on his official X account addressing ongoing political issues and a local tragedy.
On September 30, 2025, Hern commented on the potential for a government shutdown, stating: “House Republicans did our job in passing a clean CR over a week ago to keep the government open. There is a way out of a government shutdown, and it relies entirely on Senator Schumer. It’s time for him to get on board and put the American people over politics.”
Early the next day, October 1, 2025, Hern addressed a fatal incident involving local first responders: “My prayers go out to the family and loved ones impacted by the tragic loss of one of our Tulsa Firefighters this morning in a deadly crash. We have an extraordinary community of first responders in Green Country. Please keep all of these brave men and women in your thoughts and”
Later that same day, he reiterated his stance regarding the federal government’s closure: “Republicans in Congress and President Trump are fighting to reopen the government for the American people. It is time to end the Schumer shutdown and put Americans first.”
Hern has served as U.S. Representative for Oklahoma’s 1st District since 2018 after succeeding Jim Bridenstine. Born in Belton, Missouri in 1961, Hern currently resides in Tulsa and holds degrees from Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
