For the second straight time, Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas claimed the TicketSmarter Summit League Male Peak Performer of the Month honor for January. The monthly accolade is the sixth of Abmas’ career.
Abmas put together quite a January, averaging 26.6 ppg during an 8-0 run through League play, while adding 23 in a road loss at New Mexico.
The Rockwall, Texas, native had six 20-plus point games in League play and added a trio of 30-point contests as ORU improved to 11-0 and started receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. He had a season-high 37 points in a home win over Western Illinois and hit a half-court buzzer-beater in a win over Kansas City, finishing with 36 against the Roos.
Abmas also dished out 4.0 apg and had four games with five or more helpers. He shot 50.7 percent from the field and 42.4 percent from 3-point range where he finished the month going 39-for-92. He made seven triples in two different contests.
