University of Tulsa Men Host Detroit Mercy Wednesday Night

The University of Tulsa men's basketball team is set to host Detroit Mercy for a Wednesday matchup in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+. Chad McKee and Pooh Williamson will bring fans the action. Bruce Howard and JR Rollo will broadcast the radio call on Big Country 99.5 FM and The Varsity Network app.

New Tulsa football head coach Kevin Wilson will be in attendance for Wednesday's game and will get introduced to the Tulsa crowd at halftime. He will also take part in a meet and greet with fans prior to tipoff, replacing what is usually a pregame chalk talk. The meet and greet will take place behind sections 101 and 118.

It's also Buck Night as fans can get sodas, popcorn and hotdogs for only a dollar each at the concession stand.

Wednesday marks the 18th meeting between the two teams who used to battle it out in the old Missouri Valley Conference.  Tulsa holds a 11-6 record in the overall series and have never lost in eight games as the home team. However, the teams haven't met since Dec. 7, 1961, when the Titans won 76-53.

The Golden Hurricane (2-5) enter Wednesday's matchup on a four-game skid after falling to ORU in the Mayor's Cup on Saturday. Bryant Selebangue collected the third double-double of his young career in the loss, scoring 15 points to tie a career high and pulling down 12 rebounds to set a new best. He's now second in the conference with 8.9 rebounds per game while sitting at fifth in shooting, knocking down 59.6 percent of his shots.

Sam Griffin is the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.4 points per game, while Brandon Betson gives Tulsa 11.4 off the bench.

Detroit Mercy is in the midst of a seven-game road trip and is looking to break an 11-game losing streak in nonconference road games. The Titans are 4-5 after splitting a pair of conference road games last week.

Prolific scorer Antoine Davis, son of fifth-year head coach Mike Davis, powers the Titans offense, averaging 23.1 points per game on 38.3 percent shooting. He enters Wednesday's contest with 2, 942 career points, 58 short of becoming the 11th player to score 3,000 points.

Gerald Liddell's return to the lineup has bolstered the Detroit Mercy rebounding, as he's played in the past two games and pulled down 29 combined rebounds (14.5 per game). Guard Jayden Stone is averaging 14.4 points per game while shooting better than 50-percent from the floor.

After Wednesday's game, Tulsa's homestand will continue Saturday with Central Michigan. It will be the first meeting between the two schools. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
