University of Tulsa Braylon Braxton Named Freshman Honorable Mention All-America

University of Tulsa quarterback Braylon Braxton, a 6'3" redshirt freshman, earned Freshman All-America honorable mention accolades by College Football News (CFN), it was announced today.

Braxton ended the season with 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns in nine games, while also rushing for 145 yards and five TDs. His 15 touchdowns responsible is a freshman school record. He started three games for the Golden Hurricane and posted a 2-1 record as the starter.

Braxton concluded the 2022 season with his second consecutive 300-yard passing game when he completed 25-of-43 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in Tulsa's 37-30 comeback road win over the Houston Cougars. Braxton also had a team-high 51 yards rushing, including a 37-yard touchdown run with 0:23 remaining in the first half that brought Tulsa to within four points, 24-20, at halftime. He was named to the American Athletic Conference's weekly honor roll after that game.

His 316-yard performance is the second-best freshman passing performance in school history, behind T.J. Rubley's 386 yards in 1987 against Oklahoma State. A week earlier in a 48-42 win over South Florida, Braxton completed75-percent of his passes for 302 yards and one TD, while rushing for 20 yards and two touchdowns.

Braxton is the only Tulsa freshman quarterback with two 300+ yard passing games.

From Frisco, Texas, Braxton played his prep football at Independence High School.
