Representatives Kevin Hern and Kevin Kiley have introduced the PROTECT Our Kids Act in Washington, D.C. The legislation aims to prevent federal funding for schools that host Confucius Classrooms, which are Chinese language centers supported by the Chinese government.

The bill allows a one-year period for schools to cease partnerships with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or any affiliated third parties. It also mandates that the Department of Education notify affected schools about this requirement.

Rep. Hern emphasized the importance of safeguarding children from CCP influence, stating, "Chinese Communist Party (CCP) malign influence in our schools and universities cannot continue unchecked." He praised former President Trump's leadership in countering such influences and stressed the urgency of passing the act.

Rep. Kiley, who is also Chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, shared his perspective as a former teacher: “Education should empower free thought, not serve as a vehicle for foreign propaganda.” He highlighted concerns over academic independence being compromised by Confucius Classrooms under cultural exchange pretenses.

The full text of the bill is available for public viewing.
