Born in Tulsa on September 28, 1954, known for football

Stephen Michael Largent was born on September 28, 1954, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He played college football at the University of Tulsa, where he studied biology and became a standout wide receiver. Largent entered the NFL in 1976 and spent 14 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He held several major NFL receiving records at the time of his retirement. In 1995, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After football, Largent entered politics. He represented Oklahoma’s 1st congressional district, which includes Tulsa, in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1994 to 2002. He ran for governor of Oklahoma in 2002 but lost in a close race. Largent later served as president and CEO of a wireless industry association. His career in sports and politics maintained strong ties to Tulsa through his education, public service, and ongoing connection to the region.
