Tulsa’s track and field teams delivered strong performances at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kansas, finishing the event with several victories and podium placements. The team’s distance runners were particularly successful, setting a meet record and sweeping multiple events.
In sprint events, Tyler Priest finished 22nd in the men’s 60-meter dash semifinals with a time of 6.92 seconds. Annie-May Cannings secured second place in the women’s 400 meters at 55.71 seconds. For the men, Evan Sanni-Thomas led Tulsa with a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 47.48 seconds.
The Golden Hurricane excelled in middle-distance races. Billie Rouse won the women’s 800 meters in 2:12.04, followed by Sarah Hosey in second (2:13.28), Grace MacDonald fourth (2:14.32), and Hannah Taylor sixth (2:14.60). On the men’s side, Andrew Lutkenhaus took first place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.11, while Joseph Snyder was fourth at 1:49.91.
In mile events, Matilda Laidlaw finished third for Tulsa women (4:50.02), Sara Morefield was fifth (4:56.52), and Kathryn Koonts placed tenth (4:57.85). Alexandra Johnson came in 27th at 5:08.31. The men’s mile saw Charlie Krasnoff win with a time of 4:03.56; Graham Stevener was fourth (4:04.12) and Ben Brown eighth (4:07.09).
Tulsa dominated the distance competitions as well, especially in the women’s and men’s 3,000 meters events where they swept top spots on both sides. Sara Morefield won the women’s race in 9:34.29, followed by Matilda Laidlaw (second) and Kathryn Koonts (third). In the men’s race, Charlie Krasnoff set a new meet record by winning in 7:57.50; Luke Birdseye finished just behind him at 7:57.53.
Other notable performances included Jaylin VonWald placing 31st in women’s hurdles prelims and Colin Madison taking 29th among men hurdlers.
Relay teams also contributed to Tulsa’s success as the women’s A team won their race with a time of 3:47.31.

Tulsa will continue its indoor season aiming for more podium finishes at upcoming meets including the Tyson Invitational and Gorilla Classic scheduled for February 13-14.
