The University of Tulsa women’s tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats (1-6) Saturday in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The win improves the Golden Hurricane’s record to 6-3 on the year.

TU and K-State split wins to start doubles play. The Wildcats won the No. 2 position 6-2, and Tulsa’s Maria Berlanga and Lily Hutchings answered back with a 6-3 decision at the No. 1 spot.

The doubles point was clinched by the Hurricane at the No. 3 position when Amy Leather and Myroslava Zelenchuk prevailed 6-4 over Kansas State’s Manami Ukita and Florentine Dekkers.

To open singles play, senior Laia Conde Monfort stormed out to a 6-1, 6-0 decision over the Wildcats’ Rozalia Gruszczynska at the No. 1 position. The reigning American Women’s Tennis Player of the Week dropped only one game in her two-set victory, making it her most dominant win of the year thus far.

Kansas State added a win at Singles No. 3 before Berlanga and Zelenchuk rattled off back-to-back victories for the Hurricane at the No. 2 and 4 positions, respectively. Zelenchuk clinched the dual match win for Tulsa when she defeated Rosanna Maffei 6-0, 6-4. Neither athlete led by more than two games in the second set as Zelenchuk picked up her 13th singles win of the year and her fifth of the spring season.

Tulsa will remain home to face American Athletic Conference foe Wichita State (4-1) on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m.
