Tulsa quarterback Davis Brin was named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 List for his performance last weekend in a 38-35 win over Northern Illinois, announced today by the Davey O’Brien Foundation.

Brin was joined on the Great 8 List by Kansas’ Jalon Daniels, UTSA’s Frank Harris, Sam Hartman of Wake Forest, Hendon Hooker of Tennessee, Syracuse’s Garrett Shrader, Taulia Tagovailoa of Maryland and Southern Cal’s Caleb Williams. One of these eight quarterbacks will be selected as the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week, which will be released on Tuesday.

With his inclusion on the Great 8 list, Brin has now been officially added to the Davey O’Brien Midseason Watch List, bringing the current list to 44 players.

Brin, a 6’2″ senior from Boerne, Texas, led Tulsa on the game-winning drive when he completed a 3rd-and-14 pass for 24 yards and then throwing 31 yards to the NIU one-yard line on the next play. A play later Tulsa scored to take a 38-35 lead.

Brin finished the game with 322 yards and a career-high four touchdowns on 19-of-32 passing. His TD passes covered 14, 25, 20 and one yard. Brin’s one-yard TD pass came on 4th-and-goal to put Tulsa back ahead 31-28 in the 4th quarter.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.2 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who wore No. 8 as a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrien.org.
