University of Tulsa Mariano Fazio Named 2022 NCAA Division I All-America Third Team Selection

Tulsa men’s soccer player Mariano Fazio was named as a 2022 NCAA Division I All-America Third Team selection, as announced today by the United Soccer Coaches. 
 
Fazio earned this same honor last season and it is TU’s ninth All-America honor.  Former honorees besides Fazio include Frank Velez (1991),  Ryan Pore (2003, 2004), Kyle Brown (2005), Chris Clements (2007), Ashley McInnes (2009) and Austin Neil (2009).
 
Fazio, a senior from Sevilla, Spain, helped anchor the Tulsa defense, which allowed just 18 goals and recorded eight clean sheets for a 1.03 goals-against average, all of which were the best in the league.  He also recorded two goals and one assist for five points.  For his efforts this season he was named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s All-East Region first team, was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and picked up all-conference first-team accolades.  He also was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, as The American Defensive Player of the Week, the TDS No. 6 National Player, was a United Soccer Coaches Defender to Watch and was tabbed to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.  Fazio has also been invited to participate in the 2022 adidas MLS College Showcase.
