Canadian Valley Technology Center Students Receive College Credit Through Redlands Partnership

For more than five decades, area high school students have been offered educational pathways including college prep or Career Tech.

Administrators at both Canadian Valley Technology Center and nearby Redlands Community College are now asking, “Why not both?”

The result is a new partnership between the two publicly funded institutions.

CV Tech students can earn between 24 and 42 hours of block credit in qualifying programs. The credit can then be applied toward an Applied Technology Associate in Applied Sciences degree at Redlands.

CV Tech graduates must first pass required certification exams related to their program. Then, they must complete two semesters (in most cases) of pre-selected general education courses at Redlands before the block credit will be applied to a transcript.

This means CV Tech graduates must complete between 32 and 37 additional hours of college credit at Redlands. Most AAS degrees require 61 total credit hours.

Block credits at CV Tech will cost just $8 per credit hour or less than $200 in most cases for earned block credits. Seventeen of CV Tech’s full-time programs qualify for the block credit partnership.

“Preparing a skilled workforce is Canadian Valley’s mission,” said CV Tech Superintendent, Dr. Gayla Lutts. “We value the opportunity to partner with higher ed, including this newly established agreement with Redlands. The prospect of earning an Associate in Applied Science degree will not only benefit our students but our local businesses and industries as well.”

Redlands President Jack Bryant said Redlands and CV Tech have collaborated on several education initiatives over the years.

“We’ve had a strong partnership for years,” he said, “and we are excited to see where this newest collaboration will lead. CV Tech offers several programs that are in high demand by Oklahoma businesses, and we look forward to determining how we can work together to better meet more of these workforce demands.

More information on CV Tech programs is available at cvtech.edu or by calling a career counselor at (405) 262-2629. Redlands’ programs of study can be accessed at redlandscc.edu.
