The University of Tulsa men's basketball team will play Loyola University Chicago in the quarterfinal round of the fourth annual Myrtle Beach Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 17 at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C.
The Golden Hurricane and Ramblers will compete in the nightcap of the opening day's schedule with an 8:30 p.m. (CT) tipoff. Each team will play three games in the tournament with the semifinals and consolation bracket games set for Friday, Nov. 18 and the placing contests on Sunday, Nov. 20.
The Ramblers enter the 2022-23 season as new members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Loyola Chicago recorded a 25-8 record in its final season in the Missouri Valley Conference, winning the postseason conference title and making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament after making the Sweet 16 in 2020-21. The team's best season in recent history came in the 2017-18 season when the Ramblers finished 32-6 and made a dream run to the Final Four for the first time since 1963.
The Golden Hurricane has faced Loyola Chicago twice, dropping both matchups in 1948 and 1965.
Either Charlotte or Boise State awaits the Hurricane on Friday, and potential opponents on Sunday include Colorado, Texas A&M, Murray State and UMass. Boise State and Murray State joined Loyola Chicago as participants in this past season's NCAA Tournament, while Colorado and Texas A&M took part in the NIT, with the Aggies recording a runners-up performance.
The Myrtle Beach Invitational will serve as the the Hurricane's second in-season tournament in Myrtle Beach. Tulsa participated in the 2017 Puerto Rico tipoff, which was relocated to the Coastal Carolina campus due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria.
