The Oral Roberts men's soccer team used the second half Wednesday evening to blaze past St. Thomas, 5-0, at the Case Soccer Complex.
St. Thomas came into the Case Soccer Complex as the team that has allowed the fewest goals in league play. Through three games in Summit League action, the Tommies had only allowed one goal. The two teams Wednesday battled through the first half and went into the break tied, 0-0. The Golden Eagles had nine total first half shots with one on goal while UST had six shots total.
It wasn't long into the second half before the Golden Eagles got on the board. ORU took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute with a goal by Carlos Santamaria. Santamaria centered the ball from 12 yards out to score off an entry pass from Felipe D'Agostini. It was Medina's second goal of the season.
Reed Berry made it a 2-0 match in the 60th minute with his four goal of the year. Berry touched the ball past the keeper after receiving it down the middle from D'Agostini to score from 16 yards out. It was D'Agostini's second assist of the evening on back-to-back goals.
ORU didn't let up as defender Logan Bellone recorded his first goal of the season in the 78th minute. Bellone sent a header to the low-left side of the net to put ORU up, 3-0. Shane Anderson sent a corner kick to Medina who then crossed the ball into the penalty area to Bellone. Anderson and Medina each claimed an assist on the play.
In the 85th minute, Schinieder Mimy took a cleared ball by Kyle Carey down the left side of the field into the penalty area and took a shot from 16 yards out from the left side. Mimy connected to make it 4-0 in favor of ORU. Carey earned the assist.
In the final seconds, Jack Bratcher made it 5-0 with a laser header goal to the middle of the net from six yards out. Andrew Nunez passed the ball to Greg Lopez who crossed the ball in perfectly to Bratcher for his first goal of the season. Lopez and Nunez earned assists.
In the past two games ORU has scored 10 goals in 90 minutes of play with five in the first half of last Saturday's match against Eastern Illinois and five goals in the second half of Wednesday night's contest. It was the third shutout of the season for the Golden Eagles.
