Oral Roberts University Men's Basketball Challenges Tulsa in Annual Mayor’s Cup Battle Saturday

The Oral Roberts men's basketball team will travel to 11th and Harvard to face Tulsa in the annual Mayor's Cup showdown Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m. inside the Reynolds Center.

Quick Hits
• Max Abmas was named preseason Summit League Player of the Year and to the league's preseason First Team. Abmas earned a spot on the Naismith Player of the Year Watch List and the NABC Preseason Player of the Year Watch List as well as on the 2023 Bob Cousy Award Watch List and Wooden Top 50. All for the second-straight season.
 
• For the first time since 2011-12, the Golden Eagles were picked No. 1 in the Summit League preseason rankings. ORU is also receiving votes in the College Insider Mid-Major Poll.
 
• Abmas continues where he left off last season averaging 15.9 points per game. Two other Golden Eagles average double-digits with Issac McBride and Connor Vanover. McBride is scoring 13.3 points and Vanover averages 12.0 points.

• Vanover has totaled 28 blocks through seven games played. He currently is second in the nation in total blocks and in blocks per game (4.0). As a team, ORU is 19th in the nation in blocks.

• McBride has a 4.50 assist/turnover ratio to lead the Summit League and is No. 6 in the nation.

• ORU is hitting 11.4 triples per game, which puts the team 7th in the nation and first in the Summit League. The Golden Eagles have totaled 91 three-point buckets this season.
 
• On the glass, ORU leads the Summit League in defensive rebounds per game (28.6).

• This will be the 57th all-time meeting between Oral Roberts and Tulsa.

Scouting the Opponent
 
• The Golden Hurricane are 2-4 on the season. In its previous game, TU fell 82-56 at Oklahoma State.

• Four Tulsa players are averaging double-figures with Sam Griffin leading the way with 16.2 ppg. Brandon Betson scores 11 ppg, Tim Dalger scores 10.6 ppg and Bryant Selebangue averages 10.5 ppg.
 
• Tulsa averages 70.2 points per game and shoots 41.5 percent from the field and 33.3 from three-point range. TU is getting out-rebounded by its opponents by 7.2 rebounds per game.
