Broken Arrow has a new City Councilor following the appointment of Justin Green to fill the Ward 4 position left open by the resignation of Joe Franco on May 12.

Councilor Green was appointed, sworn in, and seated at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on June 19. He is a Corporal with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and supervises School Resource Officers for Tulsa County schools, which includes Broken Arrow Public Schools, Union Public Schools, and Tulsa Tech.

"I believe in public safety, infrastructure, economic development, quality schools, and being a steward of the resources and finances afforded to us in order to make our city an even greater place to live and work," Councilor Green said. "I see so much opportunity and possibilities here in Broken Arrow and would be honored to be a part of making Broken Arrow even better."

The Broken Arrow City Council considered nine residents interested in appointment to the position according to State of Oklahoma Statute 11 O.S. Section 8-109. Each had submitted a letter of interest by the June 15 deadline and met the qualifications for the position, which include living within the Ward 4 boundaries for a minimum of six months, being at least 18 years of age, and being a registered voter.

The Broken Arrow City Council held a special session prior to the June 19 regular City Council meeting. Each had the opportunity to do a short presentation and answer questions from the Council about why they would be the best choice for the position.

"We heard from nine amazing candidates, and it was quite impressive and a difficult decision," Mayor Debra Wimpee said.

Councilor Green’s appointment was approved by a majority of the City Council. He will serve until April 2025, when the seat will be on the ballot for the City's general election. The winner of the seat in the 2025 election will serve the remainder of the unexpired term at beginning at noon on April 19, 2027.
