On January 30, 2025, Congressman Hern expressed concerns regarding China's potential influence over the Panama Canal. In his statement, he supported the U.S. President's stance against allowing the Chinese Communist Party to gain control there. He emphasized that "if Panama can’t uphold their end of the bargain, the US has options to take it back."

Later that day, Hern discussed a tragic incident at Reagan National Airport during an interview with Todd Starnes on Newsmax. Reflecting on his experience as a pilot, he mentioned "I hope that the investigations will provide some closure to the families as we try to make..." concerning the mid-air collision.

On January 31, 2025, Hern addressed misinformation surrounding the accident investigation. He advised his colleagues against spreading false information while official inquiries were ongoing. He described such actions as "shameful & embarrassing," urging them to stop making unfounded claims.
