Republican Policy Committee Chairman Kevin Hern (OK-01) announced the House of Representatives passed HR 22, known as the SAVE Act, aimed at safeguarding federal elections. The legislation modifies the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, establishing the requirement for U.S. citizenship proof for voter registration in federal elections.
Chairman Hern expressed his thoughts on the Act: "The SAVE Act is simple: only American citizens can vote in our elections," adding that he believes it to be "not controversial, it’s just common sense." He further commented on his collaboration with the Trump Administration to ensure border security and counter what he considers ineffective policies from President Biden's administration.
The Act received bipartisan support in the House, with four Democrats casting votes in favor. These included Representatives Ed Case from Hawaii, Henry Cuellar from Texas, Jared Golden from Maine, and Marie Glusenkamp Perez from Washington.
